Fish Oils Help with Heart Health and the Immune System

Fish oils are recommended for a healthy diet because they contain the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), precursors to eicosanoids that can reduce the inflammatory process throughout the body. Fish oils can be found in food such as lake trout, flounder, tuna, and salmon but can accumulate toxic substances due to the food they eat. The benefits of fish oils have been widely studied and have shown to be beneficial in possibly reducing the occurrence of certain types of cancers, cardiovascular health, mental health, alzheimer’s disease, parkinson’s disease and inflammatory diseases.

The main reason for their health benefits is due to the reduction of the inflammatory process. Even people who eat fatty fish several times per week often are not getting enough omega-3’s because of the way the fish are raised. The main way to combat this is by supplementing the use of fish oils by taking an oral substance. Make sure to ask your physician or pharmacist before starting a fish oil regimen due to some increased risk when taking them with prescription medications.
